The GGF Glass Charter Health and Safety Merit Scheme is the framework that guides members to safe performance. The Charter is currently undergoing an extensive review to make it more aligned to the developments in the worlds of health, safety and environment. Health & Safety Committee
The GGF has a long standing Health and Safety Committee that ensures that we are always acting on behalf of our Members and our industry. They are a key team in leading the way for our industry.
Environment Committee
The GGF launched the Environment Committee in 2021 to enable our Members and our industry to do their part in protecting our environment and the world that our businesses are operating on. With so much going on with the environment, this Committee will be key in leading on the issues affecting our industry.

To ensure GGF Member companies follow high level Health, Safety and Environment standards, the GGF applies a coaching and supportive approach to make Members better. Our aim is not to enforce but to encourage and to work with and for Members to create a better industry.
Whether it’s the Glass Charter – where we take world-leading safety and organizational science and research from around the globe) and translate into principles and guides, or to help you drive your safe performance via our webinars and workshops, the GGF exists to facilitate learning and improvement for its Members. The GGF is focused on supporting our Members to lead the way and create an industry that can be proud of its companies, employees and safe and sustainable operating environment.

Meet the team

Working closely with the team of department heads our Health, Safety and Environment Manager James MacPherson runs the Health, Safety and Environment department.
James has worked in safety for 10 years. A diverse background covering plastics manufacturing and distribution, Healthcare and housing means that he has developed a skill for thinking outside the box and solving problems. James has extensive experience in fire safety and fire risk assessing in high-risk environments, a keen understanding of culture and human factors and a deep passion for Health, Safety and the Environment.
In his spare time, he runs a podcast called “Re-branding Safety” where he discusses safety, culture, human factors and so much more with some of the biggest leaders in the industry giving us an insight into the next big thing. James was also voted onto the IOSH Future leaders steering committee in 2019, he is currently studying for an Environmental diploma and to become a Human and Organisational performance practitioner
He also loves Rugby (union) and has had an opportunity to play for England deaf in a tournament against New Zealand Deaf and in a sevens tournament. He tries to play golf, and cycles when he can (during fair weather).
Q2 – 2021 Health and Safety Report
Each quarter the Health, Safety and Environment department at the GGF produces a report collating all the important information including; updates from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), legislation, government, our Primary Authority, trending topics, and the work we have been doing at the GGF to make sure that our members are always up to date.
